Who needs an alcohol serving competency certificate?

If you work in duties including alcohol serving, or as the person in charge of a licensed premises (or their deputy), you need an alcohol serving competency certificate.

By completing the alcohol serving passport (Anniskelupassi), you can improve your employment opportunities in restaurants, cafés, events, and other hospitality businesses where alcoholic beverages are served to customers.

What is the Alcohol Serving Passport Test like?

By completing the alcohol serving passport test, you demonstrate that you have a sufficient knowledge of the legislation for serving alcoholic beverages (Alcohol Act, Section 58). The alcohol serving passport is valid indefinitely.

The test is completed in writing on an answer form using a blue ink pen. A passing result requires at least 80% correct answers.

The test can be taken in either Finnish or English. If you wish to take the test in English, you must request it in advance.

Participants must arrive on time. Late arrivals will not be allowed to participate in the test session.

We verify the identity of all participants. Therefore, you must bring an official photo ID to the test (passport, driver's licence, or identity card).

For Gradia students, a passed test result will be recorded in the Wilma study register. For all other participants who pass the test, the result will be communicated by text message. The official certificate will be mailed approximately two weeks after the test date.

If you do not pass the test, you may retake it by registering for a new test session. New test is also subject to a fee.

The content of the alcohol serving licence (Anniskelupassi) training and test is based on the Alcohol beverage serving guide issued by the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health. Participants are encouraged to study this material before attending the training.
